The Sandy Optimist Club offers four scholarships each year to graduating Sandy seniors:
- AnnaMae Carr Memorial Scholarship
- Nick Roth Participating & Fine Arts Scholarship
- Patricia Wolf Memorial Scholarship
- Math & Science Scholarship
AnnaMae Carr Memorial Scholarship
Background: Anna Carr was a longtime member of our community and very involved with the Sandy Optimist Club. She was extremely interested in helping youth, as are many members of her family. Anna’s family and the Sandy Optimist Club established this scholarship to honor her memory. This scholarship is for a student who has shown a marked improvement in their grades and has turned their life around in a positive way since starting high school.
Amount: $500
Eligibility & Criteria for Selection:
The Student Must:
· Have a minimum 2.0 GPA
· Submit a Transcript of Grades
· Submit letters of Recommendation from faculty and/or administration
· Plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or Vocational or Technical School
Scholarship Use: This scholarship must be used within 1 year of high school graduation or 2 years with Optimist Club approval.
Nick Roth Participating & Fine Arts
Background: In memory of Nick Roth, a longtime member, and our last charter member of The Sandy Optimist Club, we provide a scholarship for a graduating senior who has excelled in the area of PARTICIPATING, PERFORMING and/or FINE ARTS.
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility & Criteria for Selection:
The Student Must:
· Have a cumulative 3.0 or above grade point average.
· Demonstrate achievements, offices and activities in which he/she has participated during high school in the area of participating, performing and/or fine arts.
· Have community involvement, if possible.
Scholarship Use: This scholarship must be used within 1 year of high school graduation or 2 years with Optimist Club approval.
Patricia Wolf Memorial
Background: Patricia Wolf was a teacher at Sandy High School and was very involved with the Sandy Optimist Club and many community activities. The Sandy Optimist Club established this scholarship to honor the memory of a truly great citizen of the Sandy community. This scholarship is for a student who has been actively involved in either 4-H or FFA.
Amount: $500
Eligibility & Criteria for Selection:
The Student Must:
· Have a minimum 2.75 GPA
· Be actively involved in 4-H and/or FFA.
· Plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or Vocational or Technical School
Scholarship Use: This scholarship must be used within 1 year of high school graduation or 2 years with Optimist Club approval.
Math & Science
Background: The Sandy Optimist Club provides a scholarship to an outstanding math/science student graduating from Sandy High School
Amount: $500
Eligibility & Criteria for Selection:
The Student Must:
· Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
· Have taken Physics and Analysis
· Be planning to major in a math/science field in college.
Scholarship Use: This scholarship must be used within 1 year of high school graduation or 2 years with Optimist Club approval.
